This committee proposes and recommends to the Board for approval the annual working budget of the following year.
The committee studies the applications of local, national and overseas Jewish agencies and then allocates funds.
The Button Project
This is a Holocaust Memorial located at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, 5201 W. Route 150, Peoria, Illinois. This project
created Peoria's only memorial that celebrates the lives of the 6 million Jews and 5 million enemies of the state who were
exterminated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. The goal of this project is to promote awareness and education surrounding
the events of the Holocaust. The memorial itself houses 11 million buttons, which are placed in a permanent glass and metal
sculpture. Six million buttons are encased in 18 Star of David shaped columns, placed in two rows. Five million buttons are
encased in 5 triangles. More information can be found at:
www.buttonproject.com.

be required to be invested in securities, and of all financial matters not specifically delegated to other officers of committees.

The Friendship Club
The Friendship Club provides activities for our seniors. We sponsor a Hannukah dinner, a mock Passover Seder, luncheons
and trips to Conklin's Barn II Dinner Theater. In celebration of Purim, Mishloach Manot is delivered to many seniors in the area.
If you would like to receive information about activities for seniors, please
contact the Jewish Federation of Peoria.
Israel Connection Committee
The Israel Connection Committee grew out of the Peoria community's strong desire to have a personal connection to
Israel. Following a visit from Alon Shuster, the mayor of the Sha'ar HaNegev region in Israel, the Peoria Jewish community
formed a partnership with Kibbutz Nahal Oz. During our mission to Israel in 2005 several members of the Peoria Jewish community visited Nahal Oz.
This trip included dinner at Kibbutz members homes, and a tree planting ceremony to establish Friendship Avenue at the
Kibbutz. To learn more about the Kibbutz click here. We also plan an annual Yom
Ha'Atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) celebration. This committee is responsible for strengthening relations with our partnership
community, Kibbutz Nahal Oz, planning activities to educate the community about Israel,
engaging in Israel Advocacy, and exploring student and adult exchange opportunities with the Kibbutz.

Maimonides Society
The Maimonides Society is an honor society of Jewish health care professionals. It was formed to foster and maintain
educational and cultural enrichment, community leadership in ethical and moral issues, and to support and strengthen
Jewish life through active involvement with the Jewish Federation of Peoria and the United Jewish Communities. In keeping
with these goals, our society sponsors at least one annual event. This program features a speaker from the medical
profession and deals with timely medical issues. All Jewish physicians, their spouses and guests are invited to attend.
In the spirit of fellowship there is no solicitation of any kind. An annual gift of $1,000 or more to the Peoria UJA Campaign
entitles a health care professional to become a member of the Maimonides Society. At Rosh Hashanah, a New Year's
greeting from the Maimonides Society is mailed to all Jewish households in Peoria. Membership in this society is a way
for health care professionals to express their dedication and commitment to the Jewish community.
Nominating Committee
The Nominating committee presents a slate of candidates for positions as officers of the Jewish Federation. This slate
is a recommendation to be presented at the annual meeting of the Jewish Federation of Peoria, at which time nominations
may also be made from the floor.

A JFP volunteer makes this important delivery. When a new baby is born, he or she is immediately welcomed into our
community. The Shalom Baby Basket includes an embroidered bib and a Jewish lullaby CD. The families also receive
information about Tot Shabbat and Bagels "N" Blocks. If you are an expectant parent or know someone who is, please
contact the Jewish Federation of Peoria.
Tot Shabbat
This is yet another opportunity for families with young children to get together. Tot Shabbat is held regularly from
September to May. The purpose is to create a child-friendly Shabbat service on the Bima, giving our younger children
a chance to develop good feelings about their Jewish heritage before they are old enough to attend Religious School or
Day School. The Ark is opened, and small plush Torahs are handed out to each child. There are songs, prayers, stories,
a puppet named Tov, and tzedakah collection with Tzedakah Bear. Each month a different family brings challah and juice
to share after the service. For more information, please contact the Jewish Federation of Peoria.
The program generally begins at 5:00 p.m. on Fridays.
